The X Subscription: What the $8 Plus Plan Includes

The X Subscription combines Grok, Cursor, and X. Here is what the $8 Plus plan includes, what costs extra, and what to check before switching.

The X Subscription: What the $8 Plus Plan Includes

The X Subscription brings Grok, Cursor, and X under one plan family. Its Plus tier costs $8 a month, or $80 a year, and includes a weekly usage pool shared across eligible Grok and Cursor activity. Plus includes Grok models in Cursor. Third-party models require Premium or higher and are billed separately. Grok API calls are also billed separately.

The bundle may suit someone who already uses Grok and Cursor and also wants X subscription benefits. It is a less obvious fit if you mainly want a general chat assistant, need third-party models inside Cursor, or are thinking of combining accounts you use for work and personal projects.

What Plus includes

Unified Pricing Section of Cursor/X/Grok

The X Subscription pricing page lists Plus at $8 per month or $80 per year. It brings together several services:

  • Grok: Chat, Voice, Imagine, and Build access.
  • Cursor: coding agent usage with Grok models.
  • X: a checkmark subject to X's eligibility rules, creator tools, and fewer ads when you connect a personal X account.
  • Grok API: access to the API, with usage billed separately at standard rates.

The included usage pool is shared between eligible first-party Grok and Cursor activity. It refreshes weekly, and different actions use the pool at different rates. The exact allowance is shown in your account, so the monthly price alone does not tell you how much coding or image generation you can do.

The API is a separate bill. Having API access through the subscription does not make API requests part of the included weekly pool. Plus includes Grok models in Cursor. The launch announcement and Cursor's plan page place third-party models on Premium and higher, where they are billed separately from the included allowance.

What happens if you already pay for Cursor, Grok, or X

Existing subscribers can keep their current plans or switch to The X Subscription when the option is available in their billing settings. The switch can combine eligible Cursor and Grok accounts into one account, workspace, plan, and bill. Connecting a personal X account adds X benefits.

Check the accounts and subscriptions carefully before confirming. xAI's account unification instructions say a completed unification is permanent and cannot be undone by support. Some app-store subscriptions also need separate cancellation steps. If your work and personal accounts should stay separate, do not combine them during setup.

How it compares with other AI plans

These prices are US list prices checked on October 14, 2026. The plans bundle different products, so price is only one part of the comparison.

The X Subscription Plus

  • Price: $8 monthly, or $80 annually.
  • Includes: A weekly pool shared across eligible Grok and Cursor usage, plus X benefits when you connect an account.
  • Separate charges: Grok API usage and any usage beyond the included pool. Third-party Cursor models require Premium or higher and are billed separately.
  • Useful if: You want Grok and Cursor in one subscription and are comfortable with the included Cursor allowance covering Grok models.

ChatGPT Plus

  • Price: $20 monthly, according to OpenAI's current plan information.
  • Includes: Expanded access to ChatGPT features and models, subject to changing limits, plus Codex coding tools.
  • Separate charges: OpenAI API usage is billed independently from the ChatGPT subscription.
  • Useful if: ChatGPT is the service you use most and its included tools matter more to you than a shared Grok and Cursor pool.

Claude Pro

  • Price: $20 monthly, or $200 billed annually.
  • Includes: More Claude usage and access to Claude Code, according to Anthropic's plan page.
  • Separate charges: Anthropic API usage is billed through the API platform, separately from Claude Pro (plan details).
  • Useful if: You already work in Claude and want its coding tools and subscription in the same product family.

Google AI Pro

  • Price: $19.99 monthly on the US Google AI plans page.
  • Includes: Gemini features and 5 TB of Google storage.
  • Coding note: Google's consumer Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions stopped serving individual accounts, including Google AI Pro, on June 18, 2026. Do not count those extensions as a current Pro benefit.
  • Useful if: The Google storage and app benefits are useful alongside Gemini. The subscription is a broader bundle than an AI-only plan.

At list price, Plus costs less than these three monthly plans. That is a price comparison, not proof that one assistant is better or that Plus replaces another plan. The best fit depends on which tools you use and whether the included usage lasts through your normal week.

Where the $8 tier stops

Plus does not include Grok Bot. The plan documentation lists Grok Bot on Premium and higher tiers, starting at $30 a month. Plus is the lower-cost tier for Grok and Cursor usage, not the tier for Grok Bot task handoffs.

There is also no fixed amount of coding time implied by the price. The shared pool covers several products, and their usage rates differ. If you use Grok heavily for chat or media, less of the same pool remains for Cursor. You can check your usage and next weekly refresh in your account before deciding whether the allowance fits your routine.

Should you switch?

If you are new to these services, compare the Plus plan's current features with the tools you already pay for. If you have an existing Cursor or Grok subscription, first check whether the new plan is available to your account and what it would change. The advertised annual price is $80, but your real comparison should include any separate API or model charges you expect to keep paying.

Before confirming a switch, write down the Cursor and Grok accounts you intend to unify, plus the personal X account you want to connect for X benefits. Read the account screen carefully, especially if any subscriptions are billed through Apple or Google. Since a completed unification is permanent, make the decision based on the exact accounts and plan shown at checkout.

For developers choosing among subscriptions, the useful question is not whether $8 beats $20 in isolation. It is whether the Grok models, Cursor access, X benefits, and weekly allowance match the work you do. If they do, Plus offers a lower entry price. If you need third-party Cursor models, Grok Bot, or a different provider's tools, compare the total cost of the plan and the extra usage you would need.
